SHOWCASE

This is a showcase of work I have completed as a student in the Master of Arts in Education (MAED) program at Michigan State University. Throughout the program, I had several goals for myself. First, I strived to apply the educational knowledge I gained in my courses and apply it specifically to education within Dental Hygiene programs. Second, I wanted to develop and work on my own teaching strategies and philosophy. Lastly, I wanted to create things that I could use in my professional career.

Below you will find samples of my work in all three areas. Enjoy!

Teaching Strategies

In this Case Study I highlight a student I have worked with that exhibits challenging behavior in relation to a lack of home-school collaboration. It shows the ways in which I develop, implement a plan and work with the student to help her successfully graduate our dental hygiene program.

In this essay I discuss how my teaching philosophy has evolved over the last several months.  It highlights important elements that have changed in my practice an instructor in a post-secondary setting.

This paper talks about the issues that arise from being a white teacher among a group of culturally diverse students. It touches on diversity issues that affect my teaching practice within a community college setting.

In my Problem of Practice report I show how I use the Stanford School of Design bootcamp bootleg design process to work through an issue within my teaching practice. It highlights each step I have taken towards a workable solution and shows how I applied the design thinking process in my work.

Creations

This Infographic highlights the important theories, learning strategies and motivational factors that affect adult learners in Dental Hygiene programs. It also shows ways to enhance adult learning by recognizing different learning styles among our adult population.

This is a Formative Assessment and feedback plan I created for use in the Dental Hygiene program I work in. In this design I integrate technology and talk about the rationale behind my decisions. This formative assessment was designed to elicit a deeper understanding from students on calculus detection.

This Infographic shows the way the educational technologies can be used to enhance student learning and understanding within the dental hygiene classroom and prepare our students for their state board examination.

This Infographic shows the critical and cultural perspectives to take into consideration when teaching adults.  It highlights important aspects and theories that, as dental hygiene educators, we should be aware of when working with culturally diverse students. This infographic provides basic knowledge and theory to help minimilize oppression that occurs within marginalized cultural groups.
